RNC Backs Trump Attack On Retired Navy Admiral William McRaven

Fox News

Excerpt:

The Republican National Committee on Monday backed comments by President Trump that were critical of retired Navy Admiral William McRaven, best known for overseeing the Navy SEAL operation that resulted in the death of Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden.

In a Twitter post from its official @GOP account, the RNC noted that McRaven "was reportedly on Hillary Clinton’s short list for Vice President in 2016."

"He’s been critical of President @realDonaldTrump?even dating back to the 2016 campaign," the tweet added. "He’s hardly a non-political figure."

Trump referred to McRaven as a "Hillary Clinton fan" and an "Obama backer" during an exclusive interview with "Fox News Sunday." He then segued into criticism of McRaven for not finding bin Laden sooner.

"Wouldn't it have been nice if we got Usama bin Laden a lot sooner than that, wouldn’t it have been nice??Trump asked host Chris Wallace. " ... Living in Pakistan right next to the military academy, everybody in Pakistan knew he was there."

McRaven, who retired from the Navy in 2014 after 37 years of service, was the head of Joint Special Operations Command when bin Laden was killed in May 2011. McRaven has repeatedly criticized Trump over the president's description of journalists as "the enemy of the American people," writing in February 2017 that those comments represented "perhaps the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime."

In a statement to CNN on Sunday, McRaven stood by his criticism of the president.

"When you undermine the people's right to a free press and freedom of speech and expression, then you threaten the Constitution and all for which it stands," said McRaven, who also noted that he "did not back Hillary Clinton or anyone else" in the 2016 election.

"I am a fan of President Obama and President George W. Bush, both of whom I worked for. I admire all Presidents, regardless of their political party, who uphold the dignity of the office and who use that office to bring the Nation together in challenging times."

Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell criticized Trump's remarks about McRaven on Twitter Sunday, writing "Correction needed to [Trump's] comment today that McRaven should have found bin Laden sooner. CIA did the 'finding.' McRaven’s special operators did the 'getting.' They moved within days of President Obama giving the order."

I wake up this morning to CNN or MSDNC (can't remember which) explaining "Trump attacks military". Basically, "Why does Trump hate the military?" :coffeenpc:

And I don't really give two schitts about McRaven's opinion of Trump. It's more of the same nevertrump strawman tripe.

If any president hated the military, it was Obama, although the press certainly never said so. The Clintons, especially Hillary, weren't too fond of them either.

I have more military members, active and retired, in my family than you can shake a stick at. With very few exceptions (nephew married to a liberal harpy)they agree with Trump.

I dare Admiral McRaven go to the University of California-Berkley and say that to the students and faculty.

There is a reason that you were in charge of killing people and breaking things, Admiral. You should stick with that.

I really wish that just once...once, not asking for a lot...someone would actually provide a legitimate example of where anyone's right to free press or free speech has been infringed.

Guess what whiney leftist reporters and your brain dead supporters? No one HAS to talk to you. No one HAS to grant you access. No one has to kiss your butt.

Guess what else, whiney leftist reporters and your brain dead supporters? No one is stopping you from incessantly spreading flat out fabrication and whining constantly about how you are treated. Part of the right to free speech of others is to call you out when you lie and to tell you "I don't care" when your feelings are hurt.

No wonder this Richard-head was an Obama 4-star Admiral. Neither one of them understand the Constitution.

Precisely!

(There’s another thread on gay weddings, where it’s also clear that equality isn’t enough anymore. Now straights need to start dating gays/trans. The end game with the left is always the same.)

There's a huge difference between a "free press" and a press that is, for all intents and purposes, the propaganda wing of a political party.

Apparently this bird brain is confusing presidencies.

Trump isn't undermining the people's right to a free press or freedom of speech, he's trying to GET IT FOR THEM given the way the MSM is entirely unfamiliar with the truth or journalism that isn't neon yellow.

Why anyone would give this man's opinion any greater weight than anyone else's is beyond me. Yes, he's served this country, but a lot of others have as well and they don't go around pontificating using false facts and memes.

Someone should give him a cracker and close the door to his cage.
